How to prevent graffiti on your timber fence

It can be frustrating going out and seeing that your new timber fence has been vandalized. It can be even more disappointing when it occurs over and over again.

Timber fences are one of the most popular surfaces for graffiti vandalism as the surface is flat and easily accessed by anyone. However, you can’t keep on replacing your timber fence every time there is graffiti on it, and washing it can get tiring.

Today we will discuss some effective ways to prevent graffiti vandalism on your timber fence.

There is no quick fix to prevent graffiti as it is hard to determine what the vandals are prevented by as each graffiti vandal is different. Therefore, it is best to try out each one of these prevention methods until one works.

  1. Install an outdoor motion sensor light

This is one of the simplest and cost-effective ways to prevent graffiti vandals as they like dark corners to complete their graffiti work so they don’t get caught. Therefore, placing an outdoor motion sensor light facing the fence is perfect, as the light will turn on only when motion occurs around the fence. This will deter the vandals as they don’t want to be seen while completing their graffiti.

  1. Line the fence with bushes.

Planting knee high bushes on your fence line will prevent vandals from easily accessing your fence. The bushes will be a pain and obstruct the vandals and should deter them. If you want to deter them completely, plant bushes with thorns such as rose bushes or Aralia bushes, this will limit access to the fence as it will be painful for them if they get to close to your fence.

  1. Install security surveillance cameras

Placing surveillance cameras will deter vandals as they don’t want to be caught, let alone recorded.

  1. Place signs up

Place “Beware of the poison ivy” or “Beware of the dog” signs up on the fence. These signs will deter the vandals as they wouldn’t want to be near poison ivy or near a barking dog as they graffiti on your fence.

If your fence is still getting vandalized, paint your fence with anti-graffiti paint.

The Dulux paint range has a great Anti-graffiti paint coating called Precision Anti-graffiti coating. This paint is designed to coat your fence or other surface nicely and when aerosol paint is sprayed onto it, you can easily wash it off with high pressure water.
